Pentagon Expands Planning for Possible Cuba Military Operation
Based on information from two unnamed sources familiar with the matter, reports indicate that instructions have been issued to step up readiness in case President Donald Trump decides to authorize intervention on the island—suggesting a possible shift beyond years of economic pressure.
In a separate account, it was noted that US officials received a “new directive” from the White House to further develop plans related to potential military action against Cuba.
When asked to respond, a Pentagon representative declined to address the specific claims, stating: “We will not speculate on hypothetical scenarios. The Department plans for a range of contingencies and remains prepared to execute the President’s orders as directed.”
The reports follow remarks made by Trump earlier in the week, in which he said the US “may stop by Cuba” after the war with Iran, describing the country as a “failing nation.” He had also previously suggested the possibility of “take” or “free” Cuba.
Meanwhile, Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo emphasized that the nation’s political structure is not open to negotiation, while leaving room for cooperation in other areas.
“In negotiations with the United States, there are a great number of issues of mutual interest,” she said. “These are issues that we can deal with in a cooperative way.”
